About our Institute

The Institute of Sensory Ecology focuses on the study of mimicry systems, particularly eyespots or ocelli in lepidopterans and galliform birds, pollen sensing of pollen eating and pollen collecting insects, pollen- and stamen-mimicry of flowering plants and colour preferences of birds bees and hoverflies (Lunau Group) as well as diverse aspects of pollination ecology (pollination by non-flying mammals, hybridisation in the genus Salvia, mechanical exclusion of flower visitors etc. (Petra Wester).
